Synopsis

Shane interviews Sister Lynn, a Benedictine Sister of Perpetual Adoration, in America. Sister Lynn tells the story of her calling and the work her order undertakes. She explains the Benedictine vows of obedience, stability and conservatio and how chastity, celibacy and poverty, which derive from conservatio have given her a happiness free from external distractions. This happiness and community life surrounded by like-minded women allow herself to devote her life to prayer and worship of God.

Judge’s Verdict

An excellent, informative presentation provided with many striking images, which provide not only visual support to the narrative, but raise questions for the reader’s further investigation.

Synopsis

Joshua interviews Sister Agatha, a Poor Clare at Ty Mam Duw, Hawarden, North Wales. She tells the story of her vocation, against the wishes of her anti-religious family and how giving up worldly ambition to follow Saint Francis in his simplicity, graciousness, tolerance and gratitude has given Sister Agatha the contentment that she now holds dearest in life.

Judge’s Verdict

The writer demonstrates excellent interviewing, writing and editing skills to produce a compelling narrative which leads the reader effortlessly from his own personal search for contentment through Sister Agatha’s discovery of her vocation and finally to the contentment that the community of Franciscans and Poor Clares find in their lives of prayer in the image of Saint Francis. This entry demonstrates the power of intelligent and well written text to carry meaning even in this multimedia era.
